Marketing
The marketing department, directed by Steffen Schindler, works with all other departments to develop general marketing concepts for the domestic and export markets and implements them with the respective on-site partners. The German Wine Institute is currently active in 10 foreign markets. Priority target groups include the media, the trade and restaurateurs. All PR, advertising and promotional activities are jointly planned and implemented by this department and the respective on-site information bureaus. In addition, the department offers advice to all German wine estates, cooperatives and commercial wineries that seek to be, or already are, active in export markets. The wine institute also supports wine enterprises by sponsoring events and joint stands at trade fairs in foreign markets, including logistical support in transporting samples to event and trade fair venues.
At this time, domestic activities are concentrated in key media centers – Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin – and other locations are to follow. Target groups, in addition to those named above, are modern, upscale, food and wine enthusiasts who are to be reached with qualitatively high-class events. In addition, the department’s annual schedule includes nationwide trade fair participation and product presentations, such as the German Wine Weeks, the election of the German Wine Queen, as well as support for competitions and awards presentations for high wine quality.
Ulrike Lenhardt is the contact person for the Canadaian and Swiss markets. Inquiries related to the American market are handled by Michael Schemmel. They are also responsible for activities in Berlin and Hamburg, respectively. Carola Keller is the contact person for matters related to Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. Manuela Liebchen oversees the markets in Belgian an the Netherlands. Franzgerd Miessner handles activities in Cologne as well as nationwide events.
Support staff – with an overview of all of the department’s activities and certain events in individual markets and domestic locations – includes Katharina Hirsch, Katja Heffner and Susanne John.
The department is suppported by the marketing and communication advisory board that analyzes markets and offers the wine institute advice on key markets and regions as well as uniform marketing concepts for the domestic and foreign markets.
