Young wine producers make their mark
New generation of German winegrowers showcase their wines at Generation Riesling event in DublinEight young winegrowers from Germany have presented their wines at a Generation Riesling event in Dublin on 9th September. Hosted by the German Ambassador H. E. Christian Pauls and organised by the Dublin based Wines of Germany representation, the main focus clearly was on exciting Riesling wines, with high-quality Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) wines also attracting great interest.
Florentine Braun-Lorenz, Sonja Merkel, Theresa Breuer, Laura Franke, Marcel von den Benken, Jan Matthias Klein, Christian Vogt and Jean Raphael Buscher are all between 23 and 31 years old and already renowned growers with top-rated vineyards and cellars. “These Generation Riesling winegrowers are keen to enter the Irish market. They bring a fresh and exciting approach to winemaking, especially when it comes to Riesling”, states Manuela Liebchen who represented the Deutsches Weininstitut (German Wine Institute) at the Dublin event.
Buzz in German wine scene
The German wine scene is buzzing with young winegrowers taking over from their parents. Particularly impressive is the way more and more young growers are grouping together for marketing purposes – because strength lies in numbers. They ought perhaps to see each other as competitors but nowadays young German wine producers are competing not so much with their neighbours as with the vast range of wines from other wine producing countries on the supermarket shelves.
These young winegrowers have gained experience abroad, and they are motivated and highly qualified – as the quality of their wines testifies. They are passionate about their wines and can communicate their passion to young wine-drinkers. What’s more, their wines are authentic and reliable – a must in today’s market.
