06/04/2018

Organized by Wines of Germany China Office, the “2018 China Top50 German Wines Competition” was successfully accomplished in May 2018. This is the third year to launch the Top50 program in Mainland China market.

The 2018’s Top50 is cooperated with WINE100 Wine Competition, the leading wine competition in Mainland China, which means that all wines registered would have the chance to win both Top50 German Wine Awards and WINE100 Awards. About 40 experts like Master of Wines, Master Sommeliers, WSET Diploma holders and winemakers from China and overseas composed the jury team, by whom each wine was scored through a blind tasting process.

In 2018, a total of 161 different German wines were registered by 48 different wine dealers in China. Finally 57 wines equal or greater than 92 points stood out and won the “2018 China Top50 German Wine Awards”. Among them, there are 41 Riesling still wines across all sweetness levels, 12 Spätburgunder red wines, 2 Riesling sparkling wines, 1 Silvaner white wine, and 1 Schwarzriesling red wine. At the same time, 141 of 161 registered German wines (including these 57 Top50 wines) finally won the WINE100 Awards: 17 GOLD Medals, 62 SILVER Medals, 51 BRONZE Medals, and 11 Recommended Prizes. The German wines’ winning rate, especially the GOLD and SILVER, are much higher than other countries of origin, which really show the outstanding quality of German wines on the Chinese Market. Wines of Germany China Office will publish a buyers’ guide for all TOP50 winning wines, through which the communication to consumers will be carried out. Wines of Germany China Office will also organize a series of activities to make buyers and consumers meeting and tasting 2018 Top50 winning wines, including but not limited to participating the WINE100 Roadshows in Shenzhen, Nanjing and Hangzhou, in forms of both free tastings and master classes.
