European Winemaker's Championship: "WeinELF" takes third place

This year's VinoEuro, the European championship for winegrowers' football teams, took place in the Czech Republic from June 1st to 4th. The German "WeinELF" team took third place, after Portugal (2nd) and the host country (1st).


After the VinoEuro 2020 and 2021 fell victim to the pandemic, eight teams were again fighting for the coveted title this year. In the semifinals, the German team lost to the Portuguese team.

In addition to WEINELF Deutschland (European Champion 2014), Portugal and the Czech Republic, teams from Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and Italy competed. All teams have been members of the Union of European national football teams of winemakers e.V. (UENFW) since 2018.

The UENFW not only organizes the games, but also hosts a conference for sharing knowledge, such as "Vino Educa" on June 2 in Mikulov on the theme "Wine in Moderation". The topics are the positive aspect of moderate wine consumption from a medical point of view, the importance of viticulture for the national economy, international trade and the role of viticulture in the context of culture and traditions.
