"Film Noir meets Pinot Noir": Wines of Germany -Russia promotion

During the first quarter of 2021, Wines of Germany – Russia organised an original way to showcase German wines to Russian consumers: by pairing Film Noir with Pinot Noir. Wine- and film experts met in Moscow to describe the philosophy of each and celebrate the match.

The task of the14 wine experts was to pair German pinot noir wine descriptions with the black and white movies in the contest, including ‘Casablanca’, ‘The Artist’ and ‘Der Himmel über Berlin’ (known in English as ‘Wings of Desire’).In addition, the experts took part in a costumed black and white photo shoot in the style of the movies, which then featured in an exhibition at the movie screening and presentation. These engaging images and descriptions were promoted in weekly posts on Facebook and Instagram, reaching tens of thousands of people and generating a wide positive reaction.

Unique opportunity to match films and wines

After a screening of 'Wings of Desire', the famous film critic Anton Dolin, discussed his findings with several wine experts who had taken on the unusual challenge and the 'Wines of Germany' guests from the wine trade and gastronomy were invited to choose the best of the pinot & movie pairings. The 70 wine professionals, partners, bloggers and journalists who attended the event, also had the unique opportunity to enjoy an exhibition of the black and white photo shoot expressing the perfect wine & film matches. The Goethe-Institute partnered with the organisers to provide the movie and rights for the screening.
