Germany Celebrates 3 New Masters of Wine
Romana Echensperger, Konstantin Baum and Janek Schumann have now joined the esteemed ranks of Germany's Masters of Wine. Germany now boasts 8 wine experts holding the coveted title, considered by many the most difficult and most demanding academic distinction in the wine world.
This year a record 19 candidates from 11 countries successfully completed the rigorous "Institute Master of Wine" program in London. First awarded in 1953, only 340 candidates from 24 countries around the world have managed to earn the coveted title of Master of Wine.
A long-time ambassador for German Wine, Romana Echensberger has moderated numerous seminars for the German Wine Institute (DWI) including at the Vinexpo in Bordeaux, the Eat&Style and the "Sommelier Summer Class." She is already scheduled to head a DWI seminar at the 2016 ProWein in Düsseldorf. For her final dissertation, she explored the excellent potential inherent to high-end Silvaner from Germany's Franken winegrowing region. She explained her own personal motivation for pursuing the title as based on a desire to explore "the theme of wine to its fullest." The Master of Wine title stands for both theoretical and practical excellence for all topics in and around wine. The international approach and perspective demanded by the selection process make the title exceptionally interesting.
Konstantin Baum from Baden-Baden holds the honor of being the youngest candidate from this year's Master of Wine pool. The 33-year old founded meinelese.de, an online wine retailer, and consults for winemakers and retailers.
Janek Schumann from Saxony manages his restaurant "Die Weinwirtschft" in Lichtenwalde, operates an online wine store and serves frequently as a wine lecturer.
The German Wine Institute salutes the success of all three of the German Masters of Wine.
