New 'German Wine Boutique' in Canada
Among special guests were Nick Nanos, Vice President of Logistics & Quality Assurance, LCBO, Mr. Thomas Nickel, Vice Consul for Cultural Affairs, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Toronto, and Anna Hochdorffer, German Wine Princess 2012.
Anna made the trip from Germany to the Kitchener-Waterloo area to spread the news about this special event to the community. While in Canada she spent her days sampling and speaking about German wines with customers at the King Street LCBO. Evenings were busy with invitations to receptions for community leaders and Wines of Germany media events. As the launch coincided with Oktoberfest, Princess Anna attended its official opening at Kitchener City Hall where she met Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau!
One of the highlight events organized by Wines of Germany was a tribute dinner at Kitchener-Waterloos’ renowned new restaurant - The Berlin. Here Chef Jonathan Gushue and sommelier Wes Klassen teamed up to demonstrate why they are rated one of the best restaurants in the country -- and to demonstrate how perfectly German wines pair with modern European cuisine.
"These 50 wines represent 50 times over the passion that German winemakers have for their wines, we are proud of the selection offered here and hope Canadians will love these wines as much as we do!" – Anna Hochdorffer, 2012 German Wine Princess at LCBO German Wine Boutique launch October 6th, 2016.
Background regarding LCBO's newest Products of the World specialty store: The destination boutique at 115 King Street in Waterloo, Ontario, offers approximately 100 wines from Germany, including some 50 that are only available in-store at this location. This selection is believed to be one of the best single-store assortments available outside of Germany!
Many of the wines are from LCBO's Consignment Program, which means this is the first time they have been available for customers to purchase in LCBO stores. Previously, the products would have only been available in licensed establishments. The current selection represents a variety of products from across Germany and will be regularly updated to keep the assortment interesting.
Products have been chosen to appeal to a wide range of tastes and budgets. The store is staffed with knowledgeable customer service representatives and a German speaking product consultant who can offer expert advice on these new offerings.
