Real wines and virtual winemakers at Riesling & Co Tokyo

As one of the first in-person wine events after the Corona lockdown in Japan, "Riesling & Co" in Tokyo was a great success. Numerous multipliers were reached through the 160 trade visitors, 52 seminar guests and 16 exhibiting importers of German wines.

Originally, the event was planned for the end of May with German wine representatives and their Japanese importers present. However, due to the travel restrictions, the table presentation took place with the 16 importers onsite and the German contingent online.

Japan's sommeliers and traders meet Germany's winemakers virtually

The team from Wines of Germany Japan came up with an alternative opportunity for the companies seeking an importer: the wines were offered for tasting to trade visitors by Japanese sommeliers, and videos from the wine producers could be viewed to get a 'virtual' personal impression from the vintners themselves.

Individual conversations via video conference

If interested, individual conversations via video conference were then held by Wines of Germany Japan in a subsequent matchmaking process enabling potential business partners to contact each other.

Importers who finally had a platform again, after enduring the long lockdown and the sales challenges for wine in the hotel, restaurant and catering channels, were particularly grateful to Wines of Germany for the support and the opportunity to present their wines to such a specialist audience: “We are thankful for the support of DWI in holding this B2B event which helps us to recover our business after the significant sales cut due to the pandemic."
