Summer of Riesling celebrates Germany’s Most Diverse and Food-Friendly Wine
Attended by more than 250 consumers, media and influencers, the event showcased the versatile and food-friendly wine by uniquely pairing Dry (Riesling Trocken), Off-Dry (Riesling Kabinett and Riesling Feinherb), Late Harvest (Riesling Spätlese and Riesling Auslese) and Sekt with savory and spicy small plates from the city’s hottest restaurants.
Held both indoors and on the rooftop at Hudson Mercantile, certified sommeliers poured and educated attendees on 34 featured wines and how they pair with different foods, including dishes from Luke’s Lobster, Aracini Bros, Oaxaca Taqueria, Paris Sandwiches, Mr. Bing and Stinky Bklyn. A selection of Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder and Spätburgunder Rosé were also featured to showcase the excellent varietals produced in Germany.
Throughout the event, attendees enjoyed the Berlin-inspired musical styling of DJ Lauren Flax and explored Germany’s winegrowing regions through Tim Wulf’s “Landmarks of Wine Culture” exhibit and an interactive tabletop display that included imagery and facts on varietals, climate and terroir. Summer of Riesling founder, Paul Grieco, also hosted a special Riesling 101 seminar and tasting on the rooftop.
While on the roof, attendees were invited to take in city views, play Riesling-themed lawn games, show their Riesling pride by applying custom temporary tattoos, and enjoy Instagramable custom Riesling ice pops from People’s Pops.
To celebrate the Summer of Riesling nationwide, 180 restaurants and wine shops across the country will be offering German by-the-glass specials and dedicated tastings beginning the first day of summer (June 20) through the end of August.
