'Wine Saves Life' welcomes Germany's Wine Queen as new patron
Wine Saves Life is the only organisation around the world whose members or donations come from the wine business or from people interested in wine. 100 per cent of every donation and all membership fees go directly to the projects.
"The DWI has a special relationship with Wine Saves Life, since the association was founded in the aftermath of the tragic events of 11 September 2001 in the United States. A DWI staff member had been among the victims of the attacks", explains Monika Reule, managing director of the Deutsche Weininstitut (DWI), when signing a cooperation agreement.
In line with the agreement, the German Wine Queen will help showcase the work of the association, gain new members and generate donations. She will also participate in the Annual General Meeting of the association in the course of which the projects to be supported will be determined. If possible, she will also visit individual projects in person.
Joachim Binz, first Chairman of the Board of Wine Saves Life, views the cooperation as an excellent opportunity to further enhance visibility of the aid organisation's work: "We were very happy to learn that the German Wine Queen agreed to become our new patron. Her competence and famous personality will surely help create greater awareness of our association in the public. Just consider which effect a mere one-month membership fee - amounting to a good bottle of wine - can have to get things moving elsewhere".
What is the money used for? The donations to Wine Saves Life are currently being used for example to operate a small village school in Kenya, which has previously been built and equipped by these means, too. Or take another example: In Wiesbaden, the local association supports the project "Jugend kocht" ("young people cook"). This initiative is led by the urban district office "Sozial-Kulturelles Quartierzentrum BauHof" and fosters good relations between children and young people of different cultures, religions and nationalities.
The freshly elected German Wine Queen Lena Endesfelder is looking forward to assuming her new responsibility as patron of Wine Safes Life: "I am honoured to be able to draw attention to the great work that Wine Saves Life is doing and I will use my position as patron to support needy children and young people".
