Wines of Germany's Forum Japan meets above-average interest

"Is the Japanese wine market the export market of the future for the German wine industry?" With this question, the managing director of the German Wine Institute (DWI), Monika Reule, opened the 'DWI Forum Japan' in Mainz on February 6, 2020, which was launched due to a positive export trend to Japan.

With over 100 visiting experts from all areas of the wine industry, the forum met with above-average interest. "We are very happy about the great demand, which shows the growing interest of the German wine industry in export as a whole, but especially to Japan," said 'Wines of Germany' managing director Monika Reule.

During the event, renowned experts provided information on key facts about the Japanese wine market one year after the  free trade agreement JEFTA between Japan and the EU came into force. They showed what Japanese wine consumers orientate themselves on and how successful business relationships go hand in hand with knowledge of the cultural characteristics of the country.

In addition to detailed market analysis and information on establishing and initiating contacts, three Japanese importers presented their companies and their respective sales channels. The day was rounded off with a tasting of imported wines that were successful in Japan and Japanese wines that are now gaining importance in the market.
