10th International German Wine Academy in Wuerttemberg


Under the banner “Train the Trainers” and within in the framework of the German Wine Academy, the German Wine Institute (DWI) has provided training since 2011 on trends and developments in Wine Country Germany for international wine lecturers and educators.

The tenth jubilee event, to be held this year in Wuerttemberg from 1 – 4 September, will welcome 22 participants from 10 nations. In total, the DWI - through its Academy - has trained to date over 300 educators from 15 countries.

This year´s programme, lasting several days and comprising seminars, workshops and lectures in conjunction with an informative tour through Wuerttemberg, includes topics such as “The Young Wine Generation” or “Riesling – 1,000 Possibilities”, as well as facts and figures from the German wine industry.

Through first-hand experience of the modern Wine Country Germany and contact to the highly-qualified local producers, the new “ambassadors” are able to communicate what they have learned much more authentically in their home countries around the globe. The response in the past has been so positive that the three-day event has in fact been held twice a year with up to 30 participants.

In 2016, the German Wine Institute organized for the first time a German Wine Academy in Canada. In partnership with the British Columbia Liquorboard, DWI experts shared their knowledge and expertise with the former´s sales staff in Vancouver. In addition, the DWI is intensifying its training of wine retailers, educators, importers and sommeliers in China.
