Decanter World Wine Awards: 151 awards for Germany

For 28 days in August 2020, more than 100 wine experts tasted and rated over 16,500 wines from all over the world, awarding more than 150 medals and recommendations for German wines. Platinum, the highest award of the 17th Decanter World Wine Awards, went to eight German wines, all of which achieved 97 (out of 100 possible) points.


Of the 147 medals awarded to German wines, eight were platinum, twelve gold, 102 silver and 25 bronze. In addition, the jury made a recommendation for four German wines.

With two platinum awards, the Hans Wirsching winery from Franken was the most successful German participant. The highest accolades went to their Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Riesling Beerenauslese 2018 and an Iphöfer Kalb Gewürztraminer Trockenbeerenauslese 2018.

The other platinum awards went to these German wines:

Weingut Aldinger (Württemberg) Fellbacher Lämmler Lemberger Großes Gewächs 2017
Weingut August Eser (Rheingau) Hattenheimer Wisselbrunnen Riesling Auslese 2003.
