German Riesling is the hottest wine in China
June 30th - July 6th: Riesling Weeks opening week activities
The new German Wine Princess Inga Storck travelled to Shanghai, Chengdu, Nanchong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou to support the opening week activities for Riesling Weeks 2019, participating in up to 15 events.
“Summer of German Wine 2019 Riesling Weeks Kick off consumer tasting” was held in Shanghai and Shenzhen, two of the most dynamic metropolises in China. More than 350 consumers and 20 German wine importers participated in the activities, bringing the heat of German wines into the Chinese summer.
6 wine pairing dinners with the theme of “Discover the charm of German wine with German Wine Princess” were held at Ritz-Carlton Hotel Shanghai Pudong, GAGGENAU Showroom & Restaurant Shanghai, Waldorf Astoria Hotel Chengdu, Chao Ting Cantonese Restaurant Shenzhen, Pazhou Art Coffee Guangzhou and the Oriental Garden Hotel in Nanchong city. Co-organized with local German wine importers, those exquisite wine pairing dinners gave customers the opportunity to experience the charm of German wine and local cuisine.
Together with the German star chef Cornelia Poletto, a media dinner was held at The Twins Shanghai, the world’s flagship restaurant by Zwilling. Star chef Poletto shared her unique modern Mediterranean influenced cuisine pairing with outstanding German wines with 20 media representatives in China. In Chengdu Temple House, Wines of Germany invited 15 top sommeliers to discover the uniqueness of German dry wines.
In Guangzhou, “German VDP tasting” was hosted by Certiz Premier Products with over 80 consumers attending and discovering the terroir characteristics of VDP. In Shanghai, “Happy Riesling Day” was hosted by German Wines Alliance with 30 customers attending and tasting different kinds of Rieslings with music performance in a visually blind environment.
Three GWA-1 consumer classes were taught by certified consultants of German wine together with Inga Storck in Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The lecturers gave consumers detailed explanations of the German wine history, German wine law, the 13 wine growing regions, together with a variety of German wines to taste.
On the retail end, Inga Storck conducted German wine knowledge sales training at Yesmywine’s offline chain store “Liquor Boss” in Shanghai and “CHEERS” franchise wine store in Chengdu. Both chains are the participants of 2019 German Riesling Weeks retailer promotion.
July 3rd and July 5th, Riesling & Co German wine hotel exhibition in Chengdu and Shenzhen
On July 3rd and July 5th, the Riesling & Co German wine hotel exhibition was held in Chengdu and Shenzhen, making a huge impact in the wine trade. More than 900 wine professionals visited the show with 29 German wine producers and importers showcasing their products. Yang Lu, the only Chinese Master Sommelier and the Certified Consultant of German wine presented a master class in each of the cities with the theme “Riesling and Pinot Noir, the star grapes from Germany”. The success of Riesling & Co hotel exhibition shows once again that in the Chinese wine industry professionals have huge enthusiasm for German wines.

Although the opening weeks of Riesling weeks and Riesling & Co hotel exhibitions have ended successfully, 2019 Riesling Weeks continues to make impacts for German wine in China during the whole months of July and August, as over 90 restaurants and 15 retailer brands are participating 2019 Riesling weeks with various promotional offers right now.
