German Wine Institute launches in the Czech Republic
Germany’s neighbouring country to the east has increasingly opened up to German wines in recent years. From 2010 to 2019, the value of German wine exports more than tripled from 1.8 million euros to 5.6 million euros. The amount of wine exported also rose in the same period from 12,000 to around 29,000 hectolitres and the average price from € 1.55 / litre to € 1.95 / litre. This means that the Czech Republic is currently in 16th place in the ranking of foreign markets for German wines, up from 22nd in 2010.
DWI managing director Monika Reule sees this decision by the DWI committees as a very good and forward-looking decision: “This year we will be examining a long-term commitment in the Czech Republic through various measures. There is definitely further growth potential for German wine exports."
The measures, coordinated by project manager Ulrike Bahm from the DWI, include a market study, a table presentation, several seminars, an information brochure in Czech and social media activities. In addition, Czech multipliers from retail, gastronomy and the media are invited to DWI information trips to the 13 German wine growing regions.
