German wines continue to perform well in Sweden
German rosé (+103 %) and red wines (+ 26 %) did particularly well, even though from a very small base. White wine remains the biggest seller with 7.4 million litres sold in 2020, a 9% increase in volume from the previous year and an 11% increase in value. The market share for German white wine is 10.2% value and 10.3% volume.
The top three regions exporting to Sweden are Pfalz, Rheinhessen and Mosel respectively, representing more than 50% of wine volume. Regarding price points, the most growth (+47% volume) was in the highest priced segment, >250 Krona or 25 euros.
Not surprisingly for a Nordic country, no less than 54 % of the whole volume of German wines were sold in Bag in Box. Another outstanding figure that mirrors Nordic trends, is that 24 % of all the wines sold by Systembolaget in 2020 were certified organic!
