New Statistics From The German Wine Institute


Germany is the world´s largest Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) nation. The vineyard area of this internationally popular grape variety has tripled here since 1995 to 5,334 hectares. Find more up to date statistics below:

As for Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) plantings, Germany ranks third among the world´s largest wine producing countries with 6,402 hectares and 11,767 hectares respectively.

This is just an example of the facts and figures from the German and international world of wine which the German Wine Institute (DWI) has collated in its current data collection "German Wine – Statistics". In a total of 30 tables and graphics, the brochure gives information on wine production, wine consumption and import and export, as well as the area under vine in international comparison. In addition, it contains the results of the federal quality control testing and wine sales in Germany.
