One of these finalists will be elected Germany's 71st Winequeen
In the preliminary vote on the election of the German Wine Queen on September 21st, the twelve candidates presented themselves as competent wine experts.
They answered numerous wine questions correctly - partly in English - and unmasked the errors built into the "Weinnachrichten" (wine news) in various places. "All candidates can be very proud of themselves. They have succeeded very well in summing up complex issues relating to wine ", explained Monika Reule, Managing Director of the German Wine Institute (DWI), which organizes the election every year. "We are looking forward to an exciting final."
The answers of the candidates on stage were examined by a 70-member master jury, this year with MW Anne Krebiehl from London (Master of Wine and freelance journalist), Christina Fischer (Sommelière, Diploma WSET and author) and Professor Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz (President of the University of Geisenheim), the master jury was once again high-caliber.
The six finalists are now looking forward to once again demonstrate their skills in front of live TV-cameras: Who will be awarded the crown by the still-reigning German Wine Queen Carolin Klöckner next Friday, September 27th? The farewell speeches and the farewell of Carolin Klöckner and the two German wine princesses can already be seen from 7.30 pm on www.deutscheweine.de, before the live broadcast on SWR television begins at 8.15 pm.
The new German Wine Queen will represent the wine from the German growing regions for one year at around 200 events around the world.
