Philipp Kuhn Vinum-Riesling Champion 2020

15 jurors tasted 1,650 Rieslings and related varietal wines such as Rieslaner and Scheurebe in an elaborate, multi-stage process to determine the 2020 champion of the wine competition organized by the magazine "Vinum". The Philipp Kuhn winery from Laumersheim (Pfalz) won the award for the fourth time, although this year with a very close contender - Thomas Haag from Schloss Lieser (Mosel) was only a tenth of a point behind.


The four best wines of a winery are used for the champion rating, whereby only one noble sweet wine is allowed. Philipp Kuhn received an average grade of 18.1 points overall, whilst Thomas Haag was close behind with 18.0 points. The Fritz Haag and Loersch wineries (both Mosel) and Hans Wirsching (Franken) ranked in the following places with 17.8 points each.
