Riesling & Co. Tokyo: Japanese pro's enjoyed 'Wines of Germany'

Some 300 wine professionals queued at Palace Hotel in Tokyo to taste mainly dry 'Wines of Germany' from 21 exhibitors. The German Wine Institute's Japan-office offered seminars for 80 guests, a press tasting of wines from 'Generation Riesling' newcomers and an importers meeting in the evening hours.

Josefine Schlumberger - 67th German Wine Queen - was impressed about the in depth wine knowledge of Japanese winelovers. "Many professionals from the trade were well aware of the fact that there has been a shift from sweet to off dry and dry fruity wines" (Video).

Notes to the editors: 'Riesling & Co' exibitions, 'Riesling Weeks', 'Summer of Riesling' and '31 days of Riesling' are German wine promotions in association with restaurants and retailers which started in the US in 2005.

The promotion aims to highlight quality, versatility and food-matching capabilities of German Rieslings to consumers as well as other grape varieties (like Pinots!) at all price points.Encouraged by the great success, the German Wine Institute has implemented trade and gastro promotions in many other wine markets as well.
