The harvest for Federweißer (new wine) and base wines for sparkling sekt, is already in full swing, and now, according to the German Wine Institute (DWI), the rest of the harvest will begin in many wine regions over the next days.

At the Mundus Vini Summer Tasting 2020, 282 German still and sparkling wines were awarded by the international jury with 142 Silver, 137 Gold and three Grand Gold. One of the top awards went to Schloss Johannisberg and the other two to the Felsengartenkellerei.

Organic wines from all over Germany were judged by an expert jury from the ECOVIN association at the end of August. The golden EcoWinner medal offers wine lovers some orientation when shopping for organic wines.

From September 1st, travellers on long-distance Deutsche Bahn trains can look forward to a very modern selection of wines from the local winegrowing regions.

The London based 'Wines of Germany' agency has launched a campaign in order to support small and medium-size retailers in the UK in their promotion of German wines.

On August 10th, this year's harvest for partly fermented new wine - locally known as Federweisser - commenced in the Pfalz region (Palatinate). At this comparatively early harvest time, the healthy grapes of the early-ripening variety ‚Solaris‘ reached ripeness with over 100 degrees Oechsle.

The alcohol monopolies of Norway, Finland and Sweden are reporting strong growth in wine sales in the first half of 2020 after wine purchases shifted more to retail because of the corona-related gastronomy closures. German white wines have benefited more than average from this development.
