Outstanding Vinotheks

One absolute must in Ingelheim is an excursion to the former 13th century Cistercian Monastery. A historical monument that has been brought back to life through the dedication of the Wasem family.

The "VinoPeth" vinothek was created from a former cow stall back in 2011. The space had already once hosted a wine tasting room during 1976.

Bright and modern, tailored entirely to their entirely personal tastes: the new vinothek in a Bauhaus style represents the fulfillment of a dream for Carolin and Jürgen Hofmann. It is a place to be at ease and for shared exploration.

Spay am Mittelrhein is in the heart of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, designated as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2002 by UNESCO. The winegrowing tradition is old here, and Weingut Müller has been part of it for 300 years.

Sometimes plans are made just to be discarded. After Georg Scheidgen and his family had collected ideas for their own vinothek - while traveling through Franconia, the Wachau and Tyrol - they realized that few of them really suited their own winery in Hammerstein in the Middle Rhine region.

If you don't come to Spay specifically, you might just notice something out of the corner of your eye. Ah, spontaneously it emerges again as you head down the nearby main road, enchanting, a remote gem that was placed at the foot of the "In der Zech" vineyard two years ago.

The Middle Mosel Valley resembles a "Grand Canyon of Riesling." If this white wine grape has its true home anywhere, it would be on this picturesque 120-km stretch of land.

The Saar, a tributary of the Mosel, is known for its exquisite Rieslings and a long rich history. Wineries often look back on generations of viticulture. So, it is all the more exciting when newcomers draw attention to themselves.

If you ask Oliver Dax why winemaking is his absolute dream job, the answer is easy for him. "This profession has so many facets that you can put all your ideas into practice beautifully," says the 30-year-old.

They wanted to give their wine a nice home. This was the prevailing thought when they gutted their typical Mosel family winegrower's house from 1902 in Mehring-Lörsch in the middle of the vines on the steep slopes. The renovation had to respect history.

The historic Mosel winery at Weingut Leo Fuchs dates back to the 18th century, but was transformed during a 2005 renovation into an open and inviting vinothek. It has quickly become a beloved meeting point for gourmets and a local treasure.

Few places offer a more stunning view of the wildly attractive Mosel Valley landscapes than the vinothek of Ludger Veit. A puristic, linear and austere low-rise building free of any embellishments.
