Nahe - Moving Sideways, Creatively


What do you do when the cooling system fails and you unintentionally kick off fermentation in your Gewürztraminer?  Well, you combine it with Chardonnay and Auxerrois into a dry blend to create the perfect "everybody’s darling," from party wine to food pairing! At least that's what I did. My little "accident" has become so popular that I now produce several thousand bottles annually.

When it comes to winemaking, I'm an absolute late bloomer. I was born in Nordrhein-Westfalen, a bastion of beer consumption, and originally studied design. While I'd always liked the taste of wine, it wasn't until I got married that I really paid attention. My husband, you see, was from a winemaking family. I soon became fully engrossed in the tradition and passion that goes into winemaking and wanted to join in the business.

To acquire the necessary knowledge, I headed back to university... in my early 40s. My international wine business degree gave me the necessary theory. But honestly my creative background has probably been what's helped me most in daily practice! The desire to experiment and design has helped me dream up many wonderful wines. Such as my special 'oops' cuvée! I've ultimately been at my proudest when I take that finished bottle with my name on it into my hands. If I then hear that people enjoy it, my world is complete. Satisfied customers and self-realization — there's really no other feeling like it.
