First German Pavilion at ProWine Singapore ever

From the 23rd to the 26th of April 2024, the German Wine Institute (DWI) will be presenting a representative selection of wines and sparkling wines from the German wine-growing regions at this year's ProWine Singapore.

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) organizes a German Pavilion in Hall 2 D1-01 where a total of 11 wine producers from four wine regions will show their portfolio of high-quality wines.

At the DWI tasting counter, a wide range of German red, white, rosé and sparkling wines as well as alcohol-free wines will be available for tasting during all four days. In addition to German’s flagship grape varieties Riesling and Spätburgunder, the range also includes white pinot varieties and regional specialties such as Gewürztraminer.

In addition, as the official guest country of Food & Hotel Singapore, Germany is organizing an attractive program aimed at affirming its importance as supplier of wines with an attractive price-quality ratio that pairs superbly with the local cuisine.

Wine has been cultivated in Germany since Roman times more than 2,000 years ago. Today, there are 13 wine-growing regions in Germany that grow more than 100 different grape varieties. Germany produces 69 percent white and 33 percent red wines. With a well-educated and widely-travelled young generation of wine-makers,  Germany is one of the ten largest wine producers and wine exporters in the world. In 2023, Germany produced about 9 million hectolitres of wine and generated exports of 1.215 million hectolitres with a value of 384 million Euros. Of this, 91,000 hectolitres (7.5 percent) or 51 million euros (13.3 percent) were exported to Asia.

In 2022, German wine exports to Singapore, doubled in value as well as in volume compared to 2021 resulting in exports reaching two million Euros or 2,000 hectolitres. The average value of German wine exported to Singapore is one of the highest in the world at 8.96 euros per litre which illustrates the exquisite taste of Singapore consumers. Riesling in particular, being the most important grape variety in Germany, is enjoying increasing popularity in Southeast Asia as it goes well with local cuisine and taste preferences. And Germany is of course by far the largest Riesling producer in the world.

Seminar programme

On all four days of the trade fair, there will be a varied program of seminars and themed tastings at the German pavilion. Jessica Himmelsbach, the German Wine Princess, will conduct daily tatings on topics such as “German Wine Basics”, “Perfectly Riesling”, “Spätburgunder – Red Star” as well as on recent trends in Germany such as “Sustainable, Organic and Low Alcohol”.

Riesling Weeks Singapore 21-28 April 2024
