The section of the Moselsteig longdistance hiking trail from Leiwen to Neumagen-Dhron circles the Mosel River Loop near Trittenheim.

Following varied paths over rocks and streams, and through vineyards and forests, the trail also passes by the Zummethöhe. The Best Vineyard View in the Mosel for 2016 is a superb vista over the Mosel River Loop and the wine-growing towns of the Middle Mosel.

You can see Trittenheim, surrounded by the river bend, and Leiwen on the left. Both municipalities are located along the Roman Wine Route.

On the right, downstream, it’s onward to Neumagen-Dhron, Germany’s oldest wine-growing town. It is here that the hike ends at the mooring pier of the Stella Noviomagi, a Roman wine barge rebuilt as an exact replica of the original, and whose name means “Star of Neumagen.”
