Weingut Thörle

Outstanding Vinothek in Rheinhessen

In 2006, the brothers Christoph and Johannes Thörle took over the winery from their parents. The first successes soon became apparent, the wines achieved higher scores in various wine guides and newcomer prizes were awarded. The brothers have now proven their prowess and belong to the club of outstanding and dynamic wineries in Rheinhessen.

Their focus is on the classic grapes Riesling and Silvaner, as well as Pinot varieties. The wines grow on limestone-rich soils in the northern hilly region of Rheinhessen. The brothers also want to show this terroir in the bottle. The wines are often intense in taste, yet appear fresh and full of harmony, and always with hints of salt, minerality and spice. A typical expression of the limestone soils.

With the new vinothek, the family also wanted to create "a forum for our wines, a place in the middle of the vineyards that nevertheless blends into the landscape," says Uta Mück-Thörle, mother of the two winemaking brothers. The experts agree: it is an outstanding success. "The new vinothek of the Thörle winery is enthroned on the Norenberg at the exit of Saulheim. One has the feeling of floating in the vines," is how the jury explained the award.

The architecture blends into the landscape precisely because of its straight lines. The elongated cube is clad with transverse larch wood struts, large windows at the front light up the rooms and have something inviting about them. Above all, the view of the wide vineyard landscape of Rheinhessen is spectacular. The modern Bauhaus style is characterised by straight lines and structures made of glass, concrete and wood. The interior of the tasting room, on the other hand, is made of limestone from the surrounding vineyards. "We have collected these over the years," says Uta Mück-Thörle. In this way, the vinothek is also reminiscent of the classic building style of the region and the historic estates.

The wines of the Thörle family can be tasted in this welcoming ambience. Guests can take a seat at tables in the front area of the building, taste wines at the bar or make themselves comfortable in chic lounge furniture on one of the terraces and let their gaze wander over the premium surrounding vineyards, Schlossberg, Hölle and Probstey. Further highlights of the vinothek are a walk-in temperature-controlled wine cabinet and barrique cellar, in which the fine wines of the estate age. Here on the Norenberg, the annual vintage tasting also takes place in summer, at which the year’s wines are presented and available for tasting.
