Kleine Kalmit

The "Little Kalmit" rises above  a sea of grapevines (Rebenmeer) and the wine village of Ilbesheim, to offer a breathtaking view over the picturesque wine villages and over to the towering shoulder of the Palatinate Forest. One of the region's landmarks sits enthroned on the summit - the Mater Dolorosa Chapel, which is visible from afar. The "Best Vineyard View 2020" is located in the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve near the city of Landau. You can reach the viewpoint at the chapel by following a scenic, comfortable walking circuit called the "Rebenmeerweg".

The 4.8km circular hiking trail starts at the parking lot of the "alla-hopp" playground in Ilbesheim and leads first through the town and then further east through the vineyards towards Wollmesheim. This is followed by a gentle ascent over the ridge to the spectacular viewpoint at the chapel. After passing numerous rest and picnic areas as well as the “Kalmitwingert”, the path leads back to the starting point at the adventure playground - a must for all families!

The tour is an easy walk through the vineyards on mostly paved paths. On the mountain ridge and on the descent, the path is gravel and unpaved, which is suitable for most prams.
